Learn About Archives With Me!

Hi everyone! In today’s entry, I will be discussing archives. When I first started searching for an archive it’s important to find one that is interesting to you. At first, I had no idea what an archive was and I have never done anything like it before. Once I started to get a glimpse of archives, I started by typing in “National Archives” into Google to find a broad variety of different ones. You may ask yourself what is an archive? An archive online can be a visual representation of a collection of historical documents or records including information about a place, institution, or group of people. Although a conventional archive may not be, in this case, I will be discussing online archives.

There are many ways to create different archives and as you may know,  if you read my about me post "meet the face behind the post" I am a Criminal Justice major. I enjoy learning about things related to that. So I ended up find a Nation Archive of Criminal Justice data that has different categories to choose from relating to Special Data Topic archives. This archive was much easier to understand since I enjoy reading about different aspects of Criminal Justice, and you didn't need any background knowledge of Criminal Justice at all to read these archives.

Archives are an important detail that can help you the reader to better understand past events. The way you interpret the photo can be different from the way I interpret the photo. For example, this photo archive down below is my little dog named Porter who is sitting on the window sill looking outside at the snow.  It was really cold that day and I could explain to you this photo but showing you a visual representation of my dog looking out the window is better.  I made my other photographs available on my blog page at the top named “my photo archives!” and these are different photographs I have chosen to show you a glimpse of my daily life through this tough time. This is important because in a few years when others and myself look back at these archives I can see what I went through during that time and how different it is now. This is a  historical time frame that will be looked at and you can create your own so you can contribute to your own archive of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Learn about Oral History!

Hello everyone! In today’s blog post I will be discussing oral history. You may ask yourself “what is oral history?” Well, oral history can have different meanings but the definition is the collection and study of historical information using sound recordings of interviews with people having personal knowledge of past events. Oral history plays a big part in history because instead of reading the information provided it can be helpful but listening to someone describe the past events gives you a better understanding. You can hear the person's tone of voice of the interviewer and the interviewee and hear how they feel about the questions being asked. An example of oral history is you can look at is the Stanford Historical Society's Oral History Program . These stories are public and they explain the history of the University. This collection had over a hundred projects with audio and some with transcripts. This website I have fo...

Meet the face behind the post!

Hello! My name is Vanessa Klein and I am nineteen years old. I am half Puerto Rican and half Italian. I am currently a sophomore and Criminal Justice major at St. Francis College. I love painting and spending time with my family and friends. I have lived in Brooklyn all my life with my parents, sister, and a little puppy named Porter. I have only gone to Catholic school all my life and I went to an all-girls high school that is unfortunately closed down. Since that has happened it changed my life and it has impacted my decisions I make today.  I really enjoy traveling and one of my favorite places I have been to is Aruba in the Caribbean. I love taking little road trips with my family to Atlantic City and Cape May in New Jersey. This is the first time I am creating a blog and I am so excited. My blog is going to be fun and exciting in different ways to learn a lot of new things. I want my blog to be original and to look like no other so when you (the reader) log...
